Terri's Tuesday Tip of the Week - April 26th

A positive mind finds a way it can be done; a negative mind looks for all the ways it can’t be done. – Napoleon Hill

Choosing to be positive and having a grateful attitude is going to determine how you’re going to live your life. – Joel Osteen

I love to run and run and run!  When I run, I enjoy beautiful sunrises and I think A LOT.  I am combining these two activities and calling it “Run Think”.

Sometimes Run Think is good and sometimes Run Think is very defeating for me.  For example, I can think about beautiful sunrises, be thankful for the opportunities I have had, dream about my future or pray for situations, family, friends, etc.  However, I can also go negative during Run Think.  I often think about various situations that I am dealing with.  A truly small situation can be a full blown “war” in my mind by the time I get home from a run.  I can leave my apartment wondering why I did not receive a response to a text or email I sent and by the time I get home I am ready to end any communication with someone or think that they hate me.

Recently, I had this issue and contemplated why things happened.  I talked with a couple friends and was told that I was overreacting, overthinking and just needed to relax.  Once I let it go, stopped processing it over and over in my mind and relaxed, I was able to calm down, cast my care and move on.  That evening, everything worked out and live is grand again!

Often times, we allow our minds/brains to go negative because we do not think anything good could happen to us or that anything good should happen to us.  These negative thought patterns cause us stress, make us feel discouraged and affect our eating habits, sleep patterns and overall attitude in life to name just a few things.

We all deserve the best in life and do not need the added stress that these negative thoughts cause.  There will be times that we will experience trials in life and we will wonder why certain things have happened, but as I can honestly say I know that all things have worked out for my good and I believe that will continue to be the case for the rest of my life.  We have to stay positive and know that the best is yet to come!

Challenge: Are you allowing your mind to create negative thoughts and control you or are you controlling your mind by creating positive thoughts?  It is your choice what your mind thinks.  Today and everyday think positive thoughts.

Create a list of positive things to speak out loud daily to encourage yourself and create the positive mindset we all need to succeed in life!

Today….I choose to have a positive attitude and look at my life in a new way.  With this attitude, I receive bountiful blessings. – Kithshaa

Terri's Tuesday Tip of the Week - April 19th

Difficult roads often lead to beautiful destinations. – Author Unknown

The journey is the reward. -  Taoist saying

Ten years ago, I had the vision of myself being the professional business woman traveling around pulling my suitcase through the airport and as one person told me “have your Bluetooth attached to your ear”.  I do not own a Bluetooth, but I can assure you I definitely have fulfilled that picture of myself pulling my suitcase through the airport and being that professional business woman that I dreamed of becoming.  On this journey, I built my self-confidence and self-esteem to know I can accomplish my dreams.  As many of you know, I have questioned many times why certain things happened and why other things have not happened in my life.  Mandy Hale said it best:

Have faith in your journey.  Everything had to happen exactly as it did to get you where you’re going next!

The best advice I can give anyone that I learned through this whole process is enjoy the journey and do not rush it.  Hindsight is 20/20 as we all know, but I can assure you I now see the bigger plan for my life and how the journey has gotten me to where I am and where I am headed.

CHALLENGE: Are you enjoying your journey?  If not, why?  Is there anything you can do it about it?  If not, be content and learn from it.  If change is possible, decide what you are willing to do to change the trajectory of your life and do it.

Terri's Tuesday Tip of the Week - April 12th

The life in front of you is far more important than the life behind you. – Joel Osteen

Accept the challenges so that you can feel the exhilaration of victory. - George S. Patton

You gain strength, courage, and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face.  You are able to say to yourself, ‘I lived through this horror.  I can take the next thing that comes along.’

When I moved from Michigan to Texas, I was quiet and had very little confidence in myself.  After pondering, “how did I develop my self-confidence?”, I realized that I was given a lot of great opportunities and I took advantage of new tasks even if I had not done anything like it before.

For example, I was asked to be the Secretary of the Senatorial District 14 Convention in 2008.  Who knew 8 years later I would chair my second Convention.  In 2011, I asked my boss at the time if I could organize a trip to DC as part of the bonus performance program at my company and the opportunity to stay an extra night to visit a friend.  With no knowledge of what to do, I took the challenge and scheduled twelve meetings for that first trip in 3 days and in previous trips they had six meetings in 3 days.

Brian Tracy said it best when he said, “Self-confidence is a learnable skill, like typing or riding a bicycle.  You develop it with practice”.

I also followed the example of Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge.  As she was entering her royal duties after her engagement to Prince William, the Queen of England mentored her to show her how a Princess/Queen was supposed to act.  Middleton did not shy away from working with the Queen and learning the process.  She went full force to learn and master her new role.  I have been blessed with many mentors that have provided me wisdom and encouragement along the way.

Challenge: How is your self-confidence?  If your self-confidence is low, what caused it?  What changes can you make to help increase your self-confidence?  What tasks do you need to “just do” to help build your self-confidence?
Also, how can you help someone else grow their self-confidence?  We all need encouragement at times and there is no better opportunity to help someone than to encourage them.
