Terri's Tuesday Tip of the Week - October 28th

“I have missed more than 9,000 shots in my career. I have lost almost 300 games. On 26 occasions I have been entrusted to take the game-winning shot ... and I missed. I have failed over and over and over again in my life. And that's precisely why I succeed.” -  Michael Jordan, US basketball player

Michael Jordan is considered the greatest basketball player of all time.  He won 5 MVP awards, 10 All-NBA 1st designations, 14 NBA All Star-Game appearances, 3 MVP All Star Game Awards, 10 scoring titles, etc.  He did not achieve all of these titles (and many more) by waiting on others to take him there.  When he made mistakes or challenges came at him, he REBOUNDED and pushed forward.  He did not listen to other people.  He kept practicing, kept failing forward and WON!

What are you dealing with today?  Are you being resilient and rebounding in life?  Today, take action, determine a plan to rebound and GO FOR IT!

Steps to…
R – REMIND yourself who you are.
E – Focus your ENERGY on what’s important!
                B – BELIEVE in yourself!
O – OPPORTUNITY to evaluate if you need to make a change…
U – UNDERSTAND that “hurting people hurt people”
N – Have a strong, trusted NETWORK of confidants to talk to….
D – DETERMINE to have an amazing, fun life!

Terri's Tuesday Tip of the Week - October 21st

Nothing is a waste of time if you use the experience wisely. - Auguste Rodin

A couple weekends ago, I traveled to Fort Worth to spend time with my family.  As many of you know, my sister was laid off from her job a couple months ago.  While I was there, we were talking about her time she spent volunteering for Habitat for Humanity.  She told me that she had been contacted by an old acquaintance saying she heard about the job loss and wanted to see if she would like to volunteer.  My sister thought outside the box and used this opportunity.

While volunteering, she had various responsibilities including greeting other volunteers at 5:30am for breakfast, making sure everyone was parking in the appropriate places, working with videographers to film a video for the event, etc.  Additionally, she took on the role of organizing the social media including Facebook, Twitter and Instagram posts.  Now the funny thing is that my sister swore she would never have an account and before her time with Habitat had no clue how to use it.  When I arrived Friday night, she was checking her posts, telling me about an app she downloaded to help create more unique and creative posts that went along with the pictures she had taken.  Truly, I was impressed because she learned something new that will help her in a new job and she made a great impression on the people she was working with.

My sister used her Habitat for Humanity experience wisely and here are two things I learned from her:
1

  •   My sister thought outside the box to network to look for a new job.  When I was with her on Saturday, people were telling her that she had done a great job and that they would keep her name out there to help her find the right job.

  • 2 My sister learned a new skill (social media) that is vital for any job in marketing/event planning.

Every experience is a great opportunity to learn!

Terri's Tuesday Tip of the Week - October 14th

"God gives everyone certain attributes, characteristics, talents, and then He says, "If you use what you have I'll increase it, but if you don't use it, you'll lose it." Use it or lose it; it's a law." -- Charlie "Tremendous" Jones

Over the last couple of weeks, this blog has been discussing procrastination.  When I read this quote on Sunday, I thought it fit in well.

We have all been given attributes, characteristics and talents by God.  When we procrastinate, we are not using these qualities and we lose new opportunities and amazing experiences because we do not complete the immediate task set before us.  However when we accomplish the tasks in the moment, we grow and are preparing for the bigger dreams and goals we will accomplish in our lives.

USE THEM...DON’T LOSE THEM!

Enjoy a relaxing, beautiful picture of the ocean and have an AWESOME WEEK!
