If your plan isn’t working, change the plan, not the goal. – Darren Hardy

Track every action that relates to the area of your life you want to improve. All winners are trackers. – Darren Hardy

It is 123 days until 2023!  Now that you have recovered from that fact, it is time to think about how the year has gone so far.  As the author has said before, December is full of holiday preparation and goals are often not top of mind.  This means we have about 3 months left to accomplish our goals for 2022.

With kids going back to school and fall approaching soon, it is the perfect time to make changes in life or establish new rhythms.  Take time this week to analysis how this year has gone by answering the below questions:

·       Is the reader at the point in 2022 where they wanted to be towards their goals?

·       What does the reader need to still accomplish for this year in regards to goals?

·       What goal did the reader think about establishing after their 2022 goals were set, but did not take it on because they thought it was too late, they would not have enough time to accomplish it or some other reason prohibited the reader from starting it?

ACTION: Jot down the answers to the above questions and come back next week for a challenge.

Sometimes the greatest adventure is simply a conversation. – Amadeus Wolfe

Life is beautiful not because of the things we see or do. Life is beautiful because of the people we meet. – Simon Sinek

As the author has written about many times, she thinks it is very important to interact with people different than herself and experience new things.  Over the weekend, the author took a trip to New Mexico and had the opportunity to experience Wild West Day in White Oaks.  During this experience, the author tried new foods, worked on developing her inverse charisma when she met many new people, learned many historical facts about the gold town and laughed over many jokes.  One of the individuals the author met was a very smart man that knew the historical facts of the town and has been published.  Another gentleman was leading a group of soldiers on a hunt.

Everyone you will ever meet knows something you don’t. – Bill Nye

This adventure was great for the author because she interacted with new people and she experienced new things.  The author stepped outside her comfort zone and learned ideas that can be implemented in her life in many ways.  Also, the author has been burned out and needed a couple of days away from the stress of work.

I meet people and they become chapters in my stories. – Avijeet Das

This adventure and the people the author met will definitely be a chapter in her life that she will not forget.

ACTION: What people have you met recently that will be chapters in your life?  Why?

Charisma is the ability to influence without logic. - Quentin Crisp

My best friend is the one who brings out the best in me. - Henry Ford

As was discussed a couple weeks ago, Adam Grant coined the phrase inverse charisma, which is bringing out the charisma of others through the conversation one has with individuals.  There are many important aspects of inverse charisma and the first thing to know is that one’s motivation has to be to make other people better.  Next, one with inverse charisma is curious in their questioning and enter conversations with the mindset to learn something new.  Most likely, those questions will be open-ended and start with words like who, what, when and where.  Once a question is answered, add on questions will most likely be asked because an individual with inverse charisma listens intently and those follow on questions provide energy to the speaker as they provide additional information.  Through this interaction, we become vulnerable as we intently listen and our guided by their direction in the conversation.

Writing this post, the author thought of an individual she knows who has had inverse charisma long before the term was coined.  The author has always looked up to that person and sees many of these qualities in that individual and respected her for it.

Inverse charisma is a new term and the author expects much more research and studies to be conducted about it providing many more opportunities for growth.

Leave people better than you found them. - Marvin J. Ashton

ACTION: When interacting with others, analyze conversations to find those individuals that ask the intentional questions to learn and then listen intently to the speaker.

Charisma is a sparkle in people that money can't buy. It's an invisible energy with visible effects. - Marianne Williamson

People who love life have charisma because they fill the room with positive energy. - John C. Maxwell

Think of a time when the reader was talking with someone and they said, “Wow, that person has charisma.”  What made the reader think the person had charisma?  What qualities did they show that were charismatic?

Now, what if the reader could develop their skills to bring out charisma in someone else?  In Think Again: The Power of Knowing What You Don't Know, Adam Grant defined a term called “inverse charisma”, which is bringing out the charisma of others through the conversation one has with others.  Questions one asks leads the other individual to talk more about themselves and bring out the best in that person through their presence and attitude.  The questioner is someone who shows they have a true curiosity to learn, open-mind to listen to what is said and withhold judgement as the individual speaks.

Would the reader like to develop their inverse charisma?  Next week, learn more about it and how to develop it.

ACTION: Create a list of characteristics for an individual with charisma.
