Terri's Tuesday Tip of the Week - March 1, 2022

The mind is not a vessel to be filled, but a fire to be kindled. - Plutarch

I am not a teacher, but an awakener. - Robert Frost

Over the last two months, Terri’s Tuesday Tip of the Week has discussed different ways to be more productive in life.  Now that there is more time in the day, it is time to think about how to use that time in 2022.

The author suggests that the reader take this opportunity for growth.  Over the years, the author has talked about reading, ways to learn, etc.  During the coming weeks, the author will discuss news ideas for growth and some recent lessons she learned.  For this growth, the author will be focusing on how other people will be able to assist in this growth.

A mentor is a more experienced individual willing to share knowledge with someone less experienced in a relationship of mutual trust. – David Clutterbuc

First, let’s discuss the difference between mentoring and coaching.  Both of these options provide an opportunity for self-improvement and provide a safe environment to share personal experiences.  Mentoring is usually advice on how the mentor navigated experiences and accomplished their dreams and goals.  Often times, mentoring can be reversed and the mentee teaches and imparts knowledge into the mentor.  In contrast, coaching focuses on the development of skills and tailored to the needs of the client.  There is not two-way growth.  Coaches focus on developing their clients.

Coaching is unlocking people’s potential to maximise their own performance. It is helping them to learn rather than teaching them.’ – John Whitmore, in Coaching for Performance

ACTION: This week, take time to determine if you want a mentor or a coach to help propel you to accomplish your dreams and goals in 2022.
