Terri's Tuesday Tip of the Week - February 22, 2022

Great things are done by a series of small things brought together.

― Vincent Van Gogh

Little drops of water make the mighty ocean. ― Julia Carney

One of the hardest productivity issues the author has tried to conquer is the television and it has been very difficult for her.  Both January and February, the author started the month with the goal of not watching television except for knowledge purposes and tried to find other activities to keep her occupied; however, loneliness, boredom and mental fatigue were some of the reasons she did not accomplish her goal.  At times, she would beat herself up for not persisting and accomplishing her goal, but finally decided her best option was to limit the amount of television she viewed and target more programs that were uplifting, encouraging and educational.  With the time she was not watching television, she would read, go on excursions and meet new people.

When trying to find ways to become more productive, we need to review the things that we have been doing to determine if we should continue, limit or completely stop the activities.  Completely stopping activities can be very difficult if there is not something to replace the activity as the author learned.

The Cardinal Rule of Behavior Change: What gets rewarded, gets repeated. What gets punished, gets avoided. Don't reward behavior you don't want to see repeated. – James Clear

Simple, small changes will help with productivity and help refocus the reader as they work on accomplishing their dreams and goals.

ACTION: Review current tasks to determine if there are any activities that should be stopped or limited in your life and determine what will replace those activities so that you will be successful in making the lifestyle changes.

Terri's Tuesday Tip of the Week - February 15, 2022

Instead of thinking outside the box, get rid of the box. – Deepak Chopra

If what you’ve done over the past 5 years hasn’t worked for you, then change what you’re doing or the next 5 years will be the same. - John Carlton, The Entrepreneur’s Guide to Getting Your Shit Together

A morning routine is something that should become like ordinary activities to be accomplished first thing in the morning and then the reader is prepared to take on the rest of the day.  As the author said, she is a morning person and is ready to go when she gets up.  However, many people are not the same.  Trying to accomplish the morning routine with handling family matters can be difficult and it is time to think outside the box to accomplish the morning routine.  Elrod would say to rise earlier to accomplish the morning routine and maybe that will work for some people.  Although, the author has another idea.  What does the reader do in the shower?  Strange question; however, that maybe 10 to 15 minutes that could be used to prepare for the day.

Previously, the author would listen to the news, podcast or a television show not to waste her time in the shower.  However, the author spent less than $5 and laminated her daily affirmations, taped them to her shower wall and reads them daily.  It is a little personal, but that is an additional 15 minutes the author can sleep in and still accomplish her daily routine.

This week, take time to think outside the box of when the reader can work on their daily routine.  Maybe it will be in the shower, getting ready in the morning, on the drive to the office, riding public transportation, etc.

A daily routine will be successful because the reader has determined they can do it and want to do it in the time they make available.

Your life changes the moment you make a new, congruent, and committed decision. - Tony Robbins

ACTION: Continue to create the daily routine.  Find times that are available to work on the daily tasks and not take time away from family, friends, etc.

Terri's Tuesday Tip of the Week - February 8, 2022

On the one hand, we all want to be happy.  One the other hand, we all know the things that make us happy.  But we don’t do those things.  Why?  Simple.  We are too busy.  Too busy doing what?  Too busy trying to be happy. – Matthew Kelly

Once you have mastered time, you will understand how true it is that most people overestimate what they can accomplish in a year--and underestimate what they can achieve in a decade! --Tony Robbins

Everyone has 168 hours in a week; however, more time is what most people say they need to accomplish their dreams.  We have to make the right decisions to have time to work on our dreams.  This not always easy because we all have priorities that come up that we have to handle.  As the author is currently single, she rarely deals with interruptions in the morning; although, during the winter storm of 2022 in the Dallas/Fort Worth area, she spent time with her sister and her normal routine was disrupted.  Simple, unexpected things interrupted her daily routine and prohibited her from having time to work on her dreams and goals.

What is the answer?

What gets scheduled gets done. – Michael Hyatt

Planning allows the reader to accomplish dreams and helps reduce uncertainty.  Think about what it is like when the reader has an appointment with an important client, colleague, etc.  That is the top priority.  The reader arrives early, plans the night before to wear the appropriate attire, researches the person, etc.  When planning a day, the reader should do the exact same things they do when preparing for a meeting.  That time on the calendar is non-negotiable and is set aside to write, read, etc.  Nothing will distract the reader from that “appointment”.

The author will also tell the reader that he/she must hold themselves accountable for this to work.  At work, the author will place time on her calendar to complete tasks and then she is distracted by phone calls or emails.  It is not easy and the author often breaks this plan.  When distractions arise, the reader has to decide what is the priority…the task that arose from the boss or the task on the calendar.  Understanding priorities is vital for this to work.

ACTION: Review your calendar.  Schedule time to accomplish your dreams and goals.  Determine how that will be your priority and you will not allow disruptions to distract you.

Terri's Tuesday Tip of the Week - February 1, 2022

These morning practices are what fuel me; keeping my routine is not about willpower. – Jenny Blake

Your first ritual that you do during the day is the highest leveraged ritual, by far, because it has the effect of setting your mind, and setting the context, for the rest of your day. – Eban Pagan

The author is a morning person.  She loves to wake up and get started on her day.  As she said last week, she learned that she can waste time in the mornings allowing too much time for “piddling” when she could go to bed later and wake up later in the morning.

Recently, the author read the book The Miracle Morning: The Not-So-Obvious Secret Guaranteed to Transform Your Life (Before 8AM) by Hal Elrod where he discusses his miracle morning routine that helped him overcome 2 major setbacks in life and how he changed his situation through his miracle morning. Elrod’s Life S.A.V.E.R.S. miracle morning includes:

·       Silence

·       Affirmations

·       Visualization

·       Exercise

·       Reading

·       Scribing

Over the years, the author has done many of the same activities for her morning routine; however, the sequence has changed.  Each day including weekends, the author wakes up, works out while catching up on the latest news from the evening, completes her devotional and recites her positive affirmations and dreams.  On Monday morning, the author got up and was trying to quickly complete her devotional before going for her run.  Trying to rush through it, she decided she would change her routine to get her heart rating going during her run and then have her full attention on her daily devotional.  A simple change can have a major impact.

ACTION: This week, think about the activities or tasks that you want to accomplish daily.  Write it down and determine the sequence you will complete.  It will probably change, but having a plan and then changing it is better than not having a plan at all!
