Terri's Tuesday Tip of the Week - August 30th

In the middle of every difficulty lies opportunity. - Albert Einstein

How wonderful it is that nobody need wait a single moment before starting to improve the world. - Anne Frank

When one door closes another door opens; but we so often look so long and so regretfully upon the closed door, that we do not see the ones which open for us. - Alexander Graham Bell

By perseverance the snail reached the ark. - Charles Spurgeon

Perseverance, secret of all triumphs. - Victor Hugo

How many times are you willing to try again?  Recently, I heard the story of Formula 409 and just had to pass this awesome, inspiring story on.

There are many urban legends about how Formula 409 received its name.  Some believe that it was the area code of the location of where the cleaning product was developed and others believe it was the birthday of one of the inventor’s wives.  However, that is not true.  Based on the website www.formula409.com, “formulating the greatest grease-cutting, dirt-destroying, bacteria cutting cleaner on the planet” is credited to two Detroit scientist that would not give up and knew they had to keep trying until they had the best formula.  They tried 408 times and were not happy with the formula and FINALLY on the 409th time they were satisfied with the formula fighting cleaner.

CHALLENGE: How many times are you willing to keep trying to accomplish a DREAM?  I can assure you that there will be down times and feelings of defeat, but it is all in your tenacity and perseverance that will determine if you will accomplish it.

DO YOU HAVE IT IN YOU????

Terri's Tuesday Tip of the Week - August 23rd

What gives ambiverts strength is the same thing that gives bilingual people strength—they can talk to and understand introverts in their organization, and they can talk to and understand extroverts in their organization. – Daniel Pink

There is no such thing as a pure introvert or extrovert. Such a person would be in the lunatic asylum. ~ Carl G Jung

Have you determined if you are an extrovert or an introvert?  Based on the quote above by Carl Jung, no one is at the full extreme of being an introvert or extrovert.  We fall somewhere on the personality spectrum and if you fall pretty close to the middle you may be an Ambivert.  According to Larry Kim in an article titled “Why Ambiverts Are More Successful and Influential Than Extroverts”, an Ambivert can be an asset because:

  • Flexible: Ambiverts are very adaptive to the situation.
  • Stable: Psychologist Hans Eysenck coined the term “ambivert” in 1947.  He said they offer a good balance between the hypersensitivity of some introverts and the domineering attitude of some extroverts.
  • Intuitive: Daniel Pink said that ambiverts “know when to speak up and when to shut up, when to inspect and when to respond, when to push and when to hold back.

Famous Ambiverts:

  • John Lennon
  • Leonardo DiCaprio
  • George Carlin

CHALLENGE:  Do you know anyone who is an Ambivert?  How do you interact with them?

I hope the last couple weeks of blog post have been beneficial in learning about personality types for both personal and business purposes.

Terri's Tuesday Tip of the Week - August 16th

I'm an introspective person. I'm not an extrovert. - John Thaw

I am rarely bored alone; I am often bored in groups and crowds. - Laurie Helgoe

The introvert's anthem for not wanting to hang out is 'It's not you; it's me. - Criss Jami

You might be an introvert if you were ready to go home before you left the house.  - Criss Jami

I have to be alone very often. I’d be quite happy if I spent from Saturday night until Monday morning alone in my apartment. That’s how I refuel. - Audrey Hepburn

Introverts are individuals that refresh/refuel/energize by being alone and quiet.  They think before they speak, enjoy small group gatherings and one-on-one time.  For them, time alone is as restorative as sleeping and as nourishing as eating.  At work or in social situations, they like to receive agendas and meeting topics to plan and think through before attending.  They do not like unexpected surprises.

In our busy society, it is important that we meet the needs of each other.  According to Fast Company, Introverts need:

  • To be respected for their need for privacy
  • Given advance notice of any changes that will affect their lives
  • Reprimanded privately
  • Educated privately
  • Respected for their introversion and not pushed into extroversion ways

     Famous Introverts:

  • President Abraham Lincoln
  • Rosa Parks
  • Mark Zuckerberg
  • Meg Ryan
  • Julia Roberts
  • Bill Gates
  • Albert Einstein
  • Mahatma Gandhi
  • Warren Buffett

CHALLENGE: Think of someone in your “Inner circle” that is an introvert.  How can you respect an introverts need for privacy and alone time to meet their needs this week?
