Terri's Tuesday Tip of the Week - June 28th

A goal is not always meant to be reached, it often serves simply as something to aim at. - Bruce Lee

A year from now you may wish you had started today. - Karen Lamb

Obstacles are things a person sees when he takes his eyes off his goal. - E. Joseph Cossman

If you're bored with life, if you don't get up every morning with a burning desire to do things, you don't have enough goals. - Lou Holtz

How are your 2016 goals coming along?  CONGRATULATIONS for all of those goals that you have completed or are on track to complete!

When I started writing this week’s blog post, I was going to do the normal “semi-annual goal check-in”.   However, I read a book Sunday afternoon that changed my thinking.  The book is called, “if” by Mark Batterson.  The premise of the book is to dream big and have a positive mindset.  Instead of thinking “if only”, think “WHAT IF”.

When you contemplate your goals for the rest of 2016, think about these questions:

  • IF I complete this goal, how will it help me accomplish my life’s purpose?
  • IF I complete this goal, how will it help me accomplish my dreams and vision for my life?
  • IF I do not complete this goal, what exciting adventure am I missing out on?
  • IF I complete this goal, how will I help someone else?
  • IF I complete this goal, how will I change the world?

In the book “if”, Batterson talks about how he marked off his #102 Life Goal when he kissed his wife at the top of the Eiffel Tower in Paris.  He thinks back to how that would not have been possible if Alexandre Gustave Eiffel had not designed the 984-foot tower.   When Eiffel originally designed it, people told him the design was useless and artless.  According to yahoo.com, approximately 6.8 million people visit the Eiffel Tower each year and over a quarter of a billion people have visited it since it was built.

Don’t give up!  Keep dreaming and imagining the impossible for your life!  Go for your goals.  Keep pushing.  Keep moving forward.  You have no idea how one of your dreams/goals could forever change history!

Terri's Tuesday Tip of the Week - June 21st

People with goals succeed because they know where they’re going. - Earl Nightingale

The trouble with not having a goal is that you can spend your life running up and down the field and never score. – Bill Copeland

Florence Chadwick…have you ever heard the name?  Florence was an American long-distance open water swimmer who was the first women to swim the English Channel in both directions in record time and then swam the Catalina Channel, Straits of Gibraltar, the Bosporus and the Dardanelles.

When Florence swam between the Catalina Channel and the California coastline, she had been going for 15 hours and a heavy, dense fog set in.  Growing tired and frustrated, she told her mother who was in one of the small boats nearby protecting her from sharks that she wanted to quit.  Continuing to swim for another hour, she continued to doubt herself and was frustrated because she was unable to see the coastline/destination/goal.  Finally, she asked to be pulled from the water.  Sitting in the boat, she soon discovered that she was only a mile from her destination.  Disappointed she told a report, “I’m not making excuses. If only I had seen the land, I could have made it.”

Two months later, she attempted the same swim along the Catalina Channel.  The same dense fog set in, but this time she kept imagining the shoreline in her mind and accomplished her goal!

CHALLENGE: We are almost halfway through the year and next week Terri’s Tuesday Tip of the Week will be on completing a mid-year goal review.  As you go about the week, think about the goals you created for yourself and you review daily (Remember Florence needed to have her goal in sight and so do we!).  Reviewing your goals will help prepare you for the tough, thought-provoking questions that I hope to challenge you with next week about how you are progressing in 2016!

If you want to live a happy life, tie it to a goal, not to people or things. ― Albert Einstein

Kind words do not cost much. Yet they accomplish much. - Blaise Pascal

You create your opportunities. - yahoo.com

ALWAYS be kind to others....you never know when you'll need a favor. – Unknown

Everyone in this world is somehow connected. So why not just be nice to everybody. - Richard Simmons

Last Tuesday, I added beautiful sunrise pictures to Facebook and updated my new location.  Wednesday morning, I had an IM (Instant Message) on Facebook from someone I knew two years ago stating he saw that I now lived in the DC area and invited me to a conference he was organizing for the weekend.  When I read his message, I was so excited and overwhelmed with joy.  Calming down, I responded yes to his invite and asked what I needed to do to register.  This individual provided me with a free VIP pass to the event allowing me to attend all speaking events, receptions, dinners, etc.

This event was any political junkies “heaven” because I got to hear various speakers such as the Republican presumptive nominee Donald Trump, Ben Carson, Penny Nance, etc.  Furthermore, I attended events in the Capitol and networked galore.

For someone who just moved to a new area, this was a blessing to have this experience and meet tons of new people.  What amazed me is that this individual and I were not good friends, but I was friendly and kind to him.

Challenge: We all meet people daily and we never know how someone could affect our lives.  It does not cost anything to be nice to someone.  Create the habit of being kind to everyone…you never know how they may affect your life or how you will affect theirs!
