Terri's Tuesday Tip of the Week - November 24th

We don’t remember days, we remember moments. – Cesare Pavese

Sometimes you will never know the value of a moment until it becomes a memory. – Dr. Seuss

One of the best memories I have of my grandfather was calling him on Veteran’s Day in 2005 and telling him “Thank You for serving our Great Country!”  Sixteen days later my grandfather passed away, but I will always have the memory that I told him thank you for giving me my freedom!

Last week, I created another memory that will forever mean so much to me.  On Thursday, I boarded a plane with my sister, mother and father and flew to Nashville, Tennessee.  My dad had asked that we go back as a family to see all of the Christmas decorations at the Gaylord Opryland Hotel.  During the trip, we toured the hotel, participated in the Grand Old Opry at the Ryman Auditorium, attended Midnight Yell Practice for Texas A&M Football, etc.  One of the best memories from this trip will be a moment I had with my dad.  My mom and sister were still asleep when my dad and I went for coffee.  The first coffee shop we went to was completely swamped with people so I took my dad on a “tour” of the hotel to find another coffee shop, which took us 30 minutes to find.  After purchasing our coffee, we found a bench outside in the brisk cool air of Nashville and talked politics.  During the conversation about the presidential race, the topic of leadership came up and my dad asked me, “Terri, what is leadership?”  I had been thinking about this topic for a while and when he asked me it challenged me even more and we discussed both of our perspectives.  This trip was a great family adventure, but this moment with my dad is probably the most memorable and will mean the most to me.

As we are going into the holidays and will be spending time with family, take time to have those special moments.  Things and people will come and go from our life, but those special memories will last forever!

Terri's Tuesday Tip of the Week - November 17th

Small daily improvements are the key to staggering long-term results.

Great things are not done by impulse, but by a series of small things brought together. – Vincent Van Gogh

Set Goals - Take Action. - Jonathan Lockwood Huie

Thanksgiving….Christmas…personal goals…business goals.  So many things coming at each of us that we often feel that we do not know how we will complete it all.  Recently, I read an article that can be incorporated into every aspects of our lives.

Daily create a goal to accomplish.

When you accomplish a daily goal, you feel a sense of accomplishment and are ready for the next goal on the next day.  By completing small goals, it will get you to your BIG GOALS!  This can be incorporated into preparation for the holidays, work and our long-term goals.

For me, I have daily tasks to complete, but often do not feel that I accomplish anything “new” or “important” on a daily basis because they are the same repetitive tasks.  By doing “one thing”, I feel that I accomplished something in my day and will have motivation to move on to the next goal and day!

Take small steps every day and one day you will get there. – Unknown

Terri's Tuesday Tip of the Week - November 10th

No one has ever become poor by giving. - Anne Frank, diary of Anne Frank: the play

How wonderful it is that nobody need wait a single moment before starting to improve the world. - Anne Frank

Being a role model is a privilege. - Allyson Felix

Last Tuesday afternoon, I had the opportunity to talk with 7th graders about leadership.  When I was first asked, I was “scared” because I do not interact with kids and was concerned I would not be able to communicate at their level.

When I started thinking about the presentation, I was going to create a great PowerPoint presentation to discuss key aspects of leadership and incorporate the current presidential race because I knew they had discussed the debates in their class.  After many runs thinking through leadership and researching various ideas and quotes, I decided to talk about my own experiences and the actions I have taken to get where I am today.  It turned out to be a great session with interaction with the kids where I was able to discuss my story, the current political field and also brought out what they are doing in their leadership class, how they are making a difference and how they can do more in the future.

Before I left, I had one young lady ask how she could get involved in the political arena/government because that had always been her dream.  I gave her a couple ideas and told her to start now getting experience because it would benefit her in the long term.

When I left, it felt good to know that I possibly impacted the lives of our future generation.

As we pursue our purpose and goals, it is important to remember to take time to develop the future generation and show them how they can make a difference.

Tell me and I forget, teach me and I may remember, involve me and I learn. - Benjamin Franklin

I am proud to be a role model for my viewers. I am finding out that helping victims is as or more rewarding the all the awards I win. - Mariska Hargitay

I want to be a role model and I want to show kids that you can be strong and overcome adversity. - Paula Creamer
