Terri's Tuesday Tip of the Week - September 20, 2022

Sometimes you have to take a break and breathe before you can keep moving forward. - Kayla Panchisin

I want to be remembered as a person who felt there was no limitation to what the human body and mind can do and be the inspiration to lead people to do things they never hoped to do. - Carl Lewis

Now that the reader has taken on a big challenge to accomplish before the end of the year, fear and anxiety may have overcome them.  The natural tendency is to tense up, stress out and slow down when one gets close to the finish.  However, that is not the most advantageous thing to do.

Carl Lewis was a track and field runner that competed between 1979 and 1996.  During this time, he won nine Olympic gold medals and one silver.  According to a BBC TWO interview, Carol Lewis would decelerate much slower than everyone else.  Why is this important?  When a runner comes close to the finish line, the natural tendency is to slow down.  However, Lewis was known for slowing down at a much slower pace than all of the other runners.  This was important because he might look like he was going to lose the race, but he would pull it out at the end when the other runners were slowing down.

My thoughts before a big race are usually pretty simple. I tell myself: Get out of the blocks, run your race, stay relaxed. If you run your race, you'll win... channel your energy. Focus. - Carl Lewis

Why would the author bring up a running technique?  Because this is a great way to accomplish the goal the reader wants to accomplish before the end of the year.  Carl Lewis was very efficient with his time and energy when he was running that it almost looked effortless for him to run.  As the reader works on this new goal/dream/project, find the most efficient ways to work and relax.  Efficiency will help the reader accomplish more in a shorter amount of time.

Risk means acting without certainty. – Darren Hardy

Life is inherently risky. There is only one big risk you should avoid at all costs, and that is the risk of doing nothing. - Denis Waitley

Last week, the author challenged readers to review their progress toward their 2022 goals.  Were there any surprises the reader discovered either in regards to the progress made so far this year or maybe the reader thought they would be farther along by this point in the year?  What about an idea or dream the reader has not started yet?

The author did this challenge a couple weeks ago.  She reviewed her goals and thought about what she still wanted to occur this year.  As the author has said many times, timing is important in many aspects of life.  For the author, she has had a hard time in her return to Texas finding the right areas to get involved in.  Knowing her passions, she tried to find places to volunteer for the military and every door closed.  On an ordinary day in July, she was sitting with a group of ladies at church and a discussion began about starting groups to help others.  The first thing the author thought of was to create a group to help the military.  There is a military base close by and some attend the same church as the author.  As the author continued to think about the idea, it became something she could see herself doing because she had done similar activities in various places she has lived.

Every risk is worth taking as long as it’s for a good cause, and contributes to a good life. – Richard Branson

For the author, she has a dream and it is a risk to implement.  It is not going to be easy because there are many barriers to overcome and connections to make.  She is taking the dream and starting small and hoping it will grow.

ACTION: What dreams have you had that you could start today to help others and contribute to humanity to make it better?
